The bizarre story of Eva Peron's cancer treatment and what we've learned

Eva Peron was a tragic young victim of cervical cancer, dying despite surgery, radiation and chemotherapy at age 33. Her illness and treatment were initally shrouded in silence but recent research reveals that, as was common at the time, she was most likely unaware of her real diagnosis or the details of the surgery she received. Even more bizarrely, evidence shows that she was given a frontal lobotomy to cure her intense pain and distress.

Today, our understanding of cancer pain has certainly changed, together with our understanding of the importance of patient choice and collaboration.
